Montgomery Insurance founder dies -

Robert T. "Bob" Montgomery, 86, was born and raised in Xenia. A Korean War veteran, husband to Dorothy and father of four, Montgomery opened the doors of the family business in 1956.

Chamber accepting award nominations -

Any chamber member may nominate as many people/businesses they would like for each of the awards. Members are encouraged to nominate everyone they feel encompasses any of the criteria for the awards.

City announces leaf collection schedule -

The city will be expanding leaf collection from one week of collection per zone to two weeks of collection for each zone. This will provide an extra collection opportunity for residents to dispose of their leaves.

'Bridges of Hope' trying to expand facility

Bridges of Hope opened their doors last year and is hoping to expand its operation, offering a safe and warm place for the homeless to come as day becomes night. "Our ultimate goal with Bridges of Hope is not just to provide a place to sleep at night.

Many of our Xenia families need support. I think we would all agree the family unit is important, but what constitutes a strong family unit? Families may look different in each case, but most successful families provide consistent housing, financial stability, clear family roles, and emotional well-being for its members.

Xenia street levy fails - 11:26 pm updated:

Xenia residents Nov. 6 voted no on a new property tax, telling city officials to find a different way to fix the deteriorating roads. By a 4,415-3806 vote, Issue 11 - a 3.5 mill levy - failed according to unofficial results posted by the Greene County Board of Elections.

Xenia teen dies after apparent stabbing - 8:52 pm updated:

Tova Wallace-Lee, 21, is being held in the Greene County Jail on $200,000 bond after allegedly stabbing Tre'Ana Tarver, 19, during an altercation. Officers were called to a fight in the 200 block of East Church St. around 11:15 p.m. where they found Tarver lying in the backyard of the residence with a stab wound to the chest, according to a release from the department.

The Trader family lived at Third and King Streets in Xenia when James Frank Trader has business interests In Yellow Springs. He and his wife had four daughters Effie, born in 1874, Georgia, 1876, Florence 1878 and Louise in 1885.

Puppies, pasta and prizes at a Pupperoni Nighta -

The Cedarville University student organization K9s at the 'Ville will host its annual 'Pupperoni Night' fundraiser 6 p .m. Thursday, Nov. 9 in the Stevens Student Center Event Rooms. 'Pupperoni Night' features a litter of 4 Paws for Ability puppies, a photo booth, raffle prizes, trivia, a 4 Paws service dog demonstration and food.

Xenia homeless shelter kicks off capital campaign -

Bridges of Hope, a homeless shelter and resource center in Xenia, is kicking off its capital campaign to raise funds for a sprinkler system and other capital improvements to their building. With winter looming, Bridges of Hope is hoping for financial support from the community as officials look to open the shelter again in November as a year-round "Hub of Hope" for the hundreds in Greene County who have no other place to sleep.

To submit a ballot early, visit the Greene County Board of Elections at 551 Ledbetter Road in Xenia. It will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4. Early voting stared Oct. 10. Greene County News Greene County voters are choosing to vote and submit their ballots ahead of Election Day.

Police: 19-year-old woman stabbed in chest, dies

Xenia police say they found Tre'ana Tarver in the backyard of a residence with a stab wound to her chest around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
